WRF hourly evaluation for extreme precipitation events

چکیده
Precipitation is one of the most relevant fields in atmospheric modeling because its environmental, social and economic implications. However, precipitation validation from weather model outputs presents substantial challenges, such as measurement uncertainties, use gridded datasets vs. direct observations, selection statistical goodness-of-fit measures. The main difficulty working with that it can be spatially irregular, especially extreme events. High temporal aggregation smooths field reduces verification uncertainty. For this reason, validations are usually focused on a daily scale. many events occur shorter periods, for which sub-daily assessment required. In paper, hourly Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) explored 45 (EPEs) recorded northeastern Spain. this, stations EPEs were classified according to distribution precipitation. WRF simulations established considering three microphysics two planetary boundary layer (PBL) parameterizations. Finally, several measures spatial distributions used evaluating performance. results showed more important than PBL Goddard Thompson together Mellor-Yamada-Nakanishi Nino gave better analyzed characteristics. an optimal combination parameterizations was not obtained all EPEs, event characteristics had effects • Hourly has been explored. We selected 965 where recorded. Three tested. results.

Probabilistic forecast of daily areal precipitation focusing on extreme events
A dynamical downscaling scheme is usually used to provide a short range flood forecasting system with highresolved precipitation fields. Unfortunately, a single forecast of this scheme has a high uncertainty concerning intensity and location especially during extreme events. Alternatively, statistical downscaling techniques like the analogue method can be used which can supply a probabilistic f...
متن کاملExtreme precipitation events: Data issues and meteorological causes
1 N umerous papers have documented an increase in extreme precipitation events in the US over the past 30 years or so. The fundamental cause of this trend is a subject of active research. The purpose of this study is to examine the meteorological factors that underlie the trend, specifically to determine the contributions of the major types of meteorological precipitation-producing systems to t...
متن کاملActive Distribution Networks Restoration after Extreme Events
After extreme events such as floods, thunderstorms, blizzards and hurricanes there will be devastating effects in the distribution networks which may cause a partial or complete blackout. Then, the major concern for the system operators is to restore the maximum critical loads as soon as possible by available generation units. In order to solve this problem, this paper provides a restoration s...
